Generate new knowledge on regulatory mechanisms and the role of normal sleep through an interdisciplinary approach, by studying molecular and neuronal mechanisms in animals and humans under different experimental conditions.


Understand sleep disorders, develop and validate new diagnostic methods for these disorders, and study the links between sleep disorders and other medical conditions, such as pain, traumatic brain injury, respiratory disorder, and neurodegenerative disease.


Design and validate new instruments for measuring sleep quality, biological rhythms and pain in order to characterize the environmental and endogenous factors that can affect the sleep-wake cycle.


Test new pharmacological treatments for sleep disorders in partnership with the pharmaceutical industry.


Develop non-pharmacological treatment, for example hypnosis for sleepwalking, cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, light therapy for circadian rhythm disorders, and dental appliances for snoring and sleep apnea.


Train highly qualified personnel (undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, doctors and health professionals, technologists and research assistants, researchers) to ensure sleep research future.


Dissemination of knowledge on sleep and biological rhythms through conferences, writings and web tools intended for health professionals and the general public, and through interviews in various media.


Raise awareness among health professionals, patients’ associations and the general public on the importance of quality sleep for maintaining health and inform them about sleep medicine advances.
